All of our team have study abroad background and can speak fluent English. Korean private education has unparalleled competitiveness across the globe and IB is where such Korean talents can shine. Ultimately, we would like to bring our teaching to all parts of the world. Many of our academy students have backgrounds of living outside Korea for many years for which learning in English is preferred. We have to teach in English anyway so why not teach students beyond the Korean nationality who would have never experienced anything like what K-Edu has to offer?
There isn’t really a concept of ‘academy’ amongst caucasian population but tutoring. The nearest would be revision course right before the finals exam in March/April. Realistically, non-Koreans of caucasian ethnicity will not enroll to summer or winter vacation class just because the concept of studying ahead isn’t natural. We are hoping to introduce Korean style ‘특강’ to the revision course demand. Of course, we would like to introduce the revolutionary idea of ensuring perfect GPA for students beyond the standard of answering students’ questions and going through problem solving of 1:1 tutoring.
This is a long-term milestone that will not be complete in just a year or two because we are starting a whole new industry. Therefore, we are hoping to work with like-minded ambitious pioneers that are driven by missions and vision, not the immediate compensation reward. This does not mean we will not be teaching Korean students at all. In fact, we have a short-term goal in securing a niche market for IB education industry for Koreans. Academies are supposed to be school specific so that students at a particular school can receive support on their school curriculum. However, due to the geographic distribution of Korean IB students all over the world, there’s only a few academies that actually offer school specific support and these are mostly limited to those located in Jeju island.
Fortunately for IBtheTOP, we have a clear, distinguished character where all of classes are conducted in English. Teaching IB in “English” is a culture of IBtheTOp that has developed over time and now well embedded. There happens to be a school in 연희동 where 90% of students prefer learning in English which is why we would like to establish a branch academy in that area.
